Bari, Italy – April 30, 2025
The SIGMA-1 EUROPE COST Action successfully launched the activities of Working Group 1 (WG1) with its 1st meeting, held on April 30th at the Università degli Studi di Bari, Italy. The event gathered medicinal chemistry experts from across Europe—both in person and virtually—to explore collaborative pathways in the design, modelling, and development of radiotracers targeting the sigma-1 receptor.
The meeting was organized by WG1 Leader Associate Professor Carmen Abate (University of Bari, Italy) and WG1 Co-Leader Professor Michael Decker (University of Würzburg, Germany), with support from the local organizing team. Thanks to a hybrid format, all WG1 members were able to actively engage and contribute, regardless of location.
WG1 focuses on identifying, synthesizing, and optimizing sigma-1 receptor ligands with the potential for therapeutic and diagnostic applications. The kick-off meeting provided a platform for each participating group to present their scientific expertise and share insights into how they can collectively contribute to achieving the objectives of the SIGMA-1 EUROPE Action.
This collaborative environment is set to foster interdisciplinary partnerships, accelerate ligand discovery, and streamline the development of innovative sigma-1 receptor-targeted agents.
