6th Sigma Symposium in Kraków – by the numbers

The 6th Sigma Symposium took place on 9-11 June 2026 at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, bringing together an international community of researchers exploring sigma receptor biology, pharmacology, and therapeutic opportunities.

The Kraków meeting gathered 123 in-person participants from 24 countries, with strong representation from ITC countries. The program included keynote lectures, oral presentations, and poster sessions, providing many opportunities for scientific exchange, discussion, and networking. The scientific sessions covered a broad range of topics, from sigma receptor biology and pharmacology to drug discovery, disease models, and therapeutic perspectives.

Young researchers played a particularly visible role throughout the meeting, both in the oral sessions and through the first edition of the Early-Career Award Competition, which highlighted outstanding contributions from young scientists. Congratulations to the awardees: Damiano Arella – 1st place, Gabriella Rosanna Musillo – 2nd place, and Anna Miteniece – 3rd place. The Early-Career Audience Choice Award was also presented to Anna Miteniece.

We would like to thank all speakers, poster presenters, participants, organizers, and contributors for making the Kraków meeting such an inspiring and successful scientific event. We look forward to continuing the scientific exchange and meeting the SIGMA-1EUROPE community again next year in Hungary!
